All of my work starts with an idea, an inspiration, a thought. All pieces are produced on a wood lathe during some part of the creative process. Traditionally, lathe generated pieces are formed from a single piece of wood. These are sometimes referred as "round and brown" in woodturner lingo, but that is just the beginning of woodturned art. Wood selection, form, decoration, and finish are all integral elements of the finished work.
Many of the works shown in the gallery are created a process called segmenting. Segmented art starts with individual wood pieces, often multiple complementary species, that are glued together to create colors and forms otherwise impossible to find in nature. Items depicted on this site have been handcrafted locally in my workshop in northeastern Oklahoma. |
